Just Do It
Nike premiered their slogan "Just Do It" in 1988, and it's a good enough tagline that I'm here writing about it for the first post on my blog 36 years later. I think many people my age (I was born one year before Nike started imploring people to "Just Do It") find it becomes harder to just do (the thing) as they get older. I certainly feel that way. When I was younger, having an idea and executing it were basically the same thing. Now, it often seems I am compiling a mental list of things I should do while simultaneously compiling a list of why those things are too difficult, time-consuming, or frivolous to actually attempt.
In any case, this space is intended as an antidote. It's the dumbest possible blog, I threw Ghost up on a sever and I'm rolling with the default template. That might change in the future, but for now the goal is simply to write stuff occasionally about whatever I want and put it out. Not because I feel my opinions are of any particular note, but because I feel my ability to think and express myself has diminished alongside my capability for swift action.
In the wake of lockdown, in this era of working from home and relatively new fatherhood, my communication skills have gone, as Paul Simon once said, "soft in the middle". So here I am, in a place it's unlikely anyone will find, trying to remind myself how to articulate my thoughts. I hope having this site up will encourage me to write, I hope writing will make me think, and I hope thinking will spur me to action. We'll see. With any luck, I'll write about it here.
